A Note From Sue
August, 2008

Did you ever see a resplendent quetzal?

This dazzling bird lives in the First Children's Rainforest in Monteverde, Costa Rica. The forest is also known as the Children's Eternal Rainforest, or Bosque Eterno de los Niños –or, the BEN.

When I saw a quetzal I was with this nice fellow Jim Crisp, who had been in Monteverde in 1988 at the forest's beginning. He told me the amazing story of how the forest came to be.

So we wrote this book. It's here on this site to celebrate the BEN, and all the children who are inheriting our world.

But---the story needs
KIDS' ART. So we hope you'll join the KIDS' BOOK PROJECT to illustrate the story. It's a great way to have fun, be creative, and meet some of the wild creatures living in the Children's Eternal Rainforest. We hope the story will add to your learning about the importance of rainforest for our future, and will inspire you to help keep the Dream alive.

We invite you to Dream The Forest Wild. Fall in love forever with the beautiful and precious rainforest --the rainforest that belongs to you.

To you, the children,

Sue

Kids...Have...A...Dream

In 1988, led by the little Fagervik school in Sweden, thousands of children in more than 40 countries join together in a common dream of saving a rainforest....in the swirling cloud mist of Monteverde, Costa Rica.

DREAM THE FOREST WILD
........How Children Saved a Rainforest
..............................By Sue Memhard with Jim Crisp

is the remarkable and true story of how the forest is saved. To honor the children ---and future generations--- the rainforest is named (by co-author Jim, the forest's founding Director)

El Bosque Eterno de los Niños
(affectionately called the BEN)
