BroadbilledMotmot

Motmots are very cool and beautiful birds! Some people think their long tail looks like a racquet swinging back and forth as they perch on branches.

Motmots make their nests in holes and tunnels in cliff, road or other embankments, both natural and man-made. Their call is distinctive and is most commmonly heard at dawn
and dusk. The broad-billed variety (pictured here) makes a kind of honking sound.

They eat small lizards, snakes and insects and sometimes fruit.

Do you know why they're called motmots? (send us your answer, we would love to know)!
