Kids Saving the Rainforest in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. Founded and directed by kids, this site is a wonderful source of information, activism and inspiration. Rainforest Information Centre In 1981, the Rainforest Information Centre was the first organization in the world to put the world's rainforests on the agenda. This important Australian site is hosted by John Seed and Ruth Rosenshek, environmental pioneers of the Deep Ecology movement. The linked page has good general information about rainforests for kids of all ages. Children of The Earth United Multi-faceted site dedicated to creating a healthier planet. Kids' writings, prayers for the earth, and a multitude of resources make visiting this beautiful site a treat for both children and adults. Children's Tropical Forests UK A new site of the UK Rainforest group mentioned at right. Chatty, fun, interactive & informative. Compassionate Kids.com. Friendly, intelligent site dedicated to helping teach children compassion towards the Earth, People, and Animals. Resources include articles, activism, book and media reviews, and projects. Become a member, it's free. Mongabay.com for kids. Terrific site by rainforest explorer Rhett Butler contains extensive information, photos, etc for kids and teachers, and is even available in many languages. The adult section is sweeping in scope. Amazon rainforest is primary focus. The Wilderness Classroom uses interactive technology-based learning to engage students and teachers. Link goes to their kids' rainforest library with superb photos and information about rainforest animals and plants. EcoLibrary site is an excellent source of materials and photos for teachers provided by conservation biologist and educator Dan Perlman. Forest Friends Ireland promotes protecting the native trees and biodiversity of Ireland as well as the tropics. Travelforkids.com Fun things to do with kids in Costa Rica (and other countries). Books and other resources are suggested. Photographer Tom Davis website has cool wildlife photos and entertaining commentary about his trips to Costa Rica. |
